New York Fashion Week Day 4

4th day of fashion week was another busy day. To start the day we grabbed a mimosa and watched the Darkoh show, to continue our slight obsession with menswear this season. Then we checked out the Maison Kitsune presentation at the Standard. Maison Kitsune is not my style but I like when looks that aren’t typically what I would go for grab my attention, which this presentation definitely did.

Rachel and I ran into our friend and fellow blogger Eugenie of Feral Creature, and we all headed over to the Nylon party. As expected, Nylon threw an awesome party. We spent the majority of our time sipping on tequila sunrises while sit-dancing (that is, when you’ve been wearing heels for 12 hours a day every day that week and want to dance but can’t quite do it standing up) at our booth next to the DJ. I even got a chance to meet and have a few conversations with the owner of Nylon, which was definitely unexpected but awesome.

It was an insanely fun night filled with tequila and laughing and photo booth sessions, but we definitely paid for it the next day, haha.

New York Fashion Week Day 3

My favorite part of fashion week is getting to see so many different designs and styles back to back, and in return getting inspired for my own designs and styling. It’s also amazing to meet all the driven, dedicated people involved in fashion, who each have a different role and contribute to this giant amazing mess called fashion week.

Anyway, above are a few photos that one of my photographers Phil took of me following the Sheena Trivedi show. The harem pants I’m wearing here (by Thriftwares- check them out!) are probably my most favorite thing I’ve ever owned. So androgynous and chic and perfect. After the Trivedi show we headed straight to Milk Studios, which is my favorite venue to see fashion in. We got to hang and sip on some champagne pre show in the penthouse lounge then saw some amazing menswear presentations. Rachel and I decided we could see menswear for all of fashion week and be happy.

New York Fashion Week Day 2

Rachel and I spent most of the day at the Dream Hotel where we sipped on champagne and laid around on pretty couches. We took a few snaps outside of our looks, which is what you see here. And yes, I wore a fur coat in 85 degree weather #nyfwproblems.

New York Fashion Week Day 1

First day of my favorite madness. I flew to New York hella early Friday morning and took a cab straight to Rachel’s place in Bushwick, aka second home. After spending a week in a desert at Burning Man (diary post coming soon), the phrase culture shock doesn’t even explain it.

Rachel hadn’t quite come alive for the day yet, so I had this cute thought that maybe I could nap before we started the day. Then it clicked that I’m in New York and was like LOL we have about an hour to get ready and get an uber to our first show. Wishful thinking, ya feel me?

We hit up two shows yesterday: Sally LaPointe and Martin Keehn. Sally LaPointe was basically everything I want to be… clean black/white, classy but somehow still casual. I’d wear Sally LaPointe to grab a tea down the street or a cocktail at the Dream. And seeing how some of my favorite brands are Skingraft, ODD, etc, it was pretty easy to obsess over Sally LaPointe. Martin Keehn was also great because I hadn’t seen a menswear presentation in a while and the vibe of the show was really chill and not so rushed feeling like most of fashion week.

In between shows Rachel and I also stopped at the Sequin NYC showroom. My good friend is the PR girl at Sequin and she hooked us up with some cool jewels. After the three events of the day my the bottom of my feet felt like they were gonna explode (can’t complain though, I mean look at those amazing Steve Maddens) and I needed some grub in my system. So Rachel and I ended the night by ordering sushi in bed and watching the L word and falling asleep by the exciting hour of 11:30pm.

“our hearts are wild creatures. that’s why our ribs are cages” she mutters as she pours the end of her lagavulin bottle on the pile of furs and jewels on her living room floor, with that look on her face like mistakes are just nature’s thrill seekers.

she’s an old soul in an old body. she’s had more than most people ever will. she’s lived beyond the point of giving a fuck, because giving a fuck requires explaining your past to your present.

and that theme has resurrected her old habits.

it’s been 8 days since she left the house, 4 days since she had solid food, and 22 hours until she would fall into a lasting coma beside her fur on the living room floor.

she finally takes a seat next to me, letting her fragile body sink into a love seat that costs more than my chevy parked in her ten-car driveway.

“when i was 8 i broke three ribs” she takes a slow drag of her hand-rolled cigarette, “when they woke me up on the hospital bed asking how it happened, i broke out laughing”

smoke comes out of her mouth and dances away from her lips in the shape of poorly-drawn circles, and for the first time during my 3 hour visit to her home, she looks up at me,

“i found it funny that the doctors didn’t realize how wild a heart can be.”

beggar's prayer.

sequin jewelrysequin jewelrysequin jewelrysequin jewelrysequin jewelrysequin jewelry

it was a day like today. i paid my dues, i sang along with the world’s tunes. i collected all hope in sight and kept it safe in a box. i glued a jewel on top and instructed it to shine on a day like today, when i forget about this bank and the world tunes underway.

i rearranged my map. i deflected my sight from distracting peripherals to the direct path ahead. side roads, off roads, i got lost following my own map.

jeweled box in hand, your solacing words circulate in my head. so with a beggar’s prayer on my tongue, i flip the map and write on the back: “when i was lost you thought me a beautiful find.”

worn out - fashion blog

worn out blogstyle blog - worn outstyle blog - fashion blogstyle blog - worn outyou left for a long time today. lifted yourself out of your miserable constant, i suppose. i called to say goodbye. not because i care about you. but because i want you to care about me. a ‘courtesy call’, right? like when those telemarketers call in the middle of your dragging work day to pretend like they give a shit about your needs.

our phone conversation drifts in and out like waves. much like the presence of your emotional state. barely reaching shore. coming and going at your leisure. but i’m forgiving, i suppose. i’ll lift the heaviness in your chest because as i’ve told you many times before, the heaviness in your chest is transferable energy. because behind all your “yes” “great” “i’ll call” “i’ll email” talk i can feel the buzzing of an underlying statement: “someone come and lift me out of here”. but no one can hear your buzzing over the filler words. they can just feel it. they can identify with it. they can, regardless of your strong efforts in blocking off your leaking emotions, forgive. but i’m only forgiving because i’ve needed to be forgiven.

build fires.

winter fashion - bitching and junk food

soon it will be cold enough to build fires. and that’s a challenge we’re willing to take. the tree branches surrounding our cabin have the strength to hold the heavy, cold snow without giving in, and on this cold day i’d like to remind you that we’re no less capable. so open your front door and face the earth as it lies ahead of you. it’s an easy game to stay trapped inside our cozy bubble of wishful thinking, but i assure you the pain is worth the play- that our strength coupled with our willingness to feel the cold before the heat is exactly the kind of mindset that brought our coexistence together.

so drink sun water and let it alleviate you. build fires with the help of other warm hands. soon it will be cold enough to build fires and we’re more prepared than we’ve ever been.
